Sports fans need not look outside the Foothills for top international competition.
The picturesque Spruce Meadows entertains thousands of spectators each year with top show jumping events featuring the biggest names in the sport from Canadian superstar Eric Lamaze to American Kent Farrington.
Big event season kicks off in June with The National on June 7-11, the Continental on June 14-18, and the Pan American June 27 to July 2. The North American, an international showcase tournament from July 5-9, is always a big hit for spectators.
Perhaps the highlight of the show jumping season is The Masters, from Sept. 6-10, where the world’s elite in equestrian come to compete for both individual and national glory.
Not exclusive just to top-ranked jumpers, Spruce Meadows is home to novice and junior riding events at its array of state-of-the-art rings. The tournament season runs from February to the fall for Oktoberfest. All told, there’s $6 million in prize money up for grabs at Spruce Meadows events.
Spruce Meadows is open 365 days a year and features beautiful grounds, stable tours as well as shopping and catering opportunities. The International Christmas Market is one of the most popular annual festivities at the grounds.
