Over the last 20 years, Bragg Creek has evolved into a fine dining destination for not only foodies from Calgary, Cochrane and Okotoks but for tourists from around the world.
For good reason, Bragg Creek’s eclectic collection of fine dining restaurants boast some of Alberta’s most outstanding executive chefs.
For example, at the renowned Bavarian Inn restaurant, Josef Wiewer is the executive chef/owner and he is an award-winning chef earning three gold medals in the Best of Alberta Buffalo Culinary Competition 2003. He is also the winner of the Silver Spoon award, issued by Les Clefs D’Or in 2001.
“It is very important to have a good summer this year because last year the traffic was non-existent due to the flood,” said Wiewer. “We need to bring people back to Bragg Creek to enjoy the shops, the hiking, and the restaurants.”
The community has been busy rebuilding and one of Bragg Creek’s most iconic restaurants, The Steak Pit, is undergoing massive renovations and is expected to be open later this summer.
Also, The Italian Farmhouse Ristorante and Bar has been renovated and is now re-open.
Wiewer said there is a good vibe in Bragg Creek especially with some of the new eateries which have opened including Wok On.
With renowned Executive Chef Jacob Liu, who learned the art of flavor and food design from his grandmother and brings with him the tradition of his ancestors, Wok On puts a unique twist on Chinese. With his infusion of the sweet and savory, you’re sure to find a dish that you’ll love.
“We look for a great patio season with some sun and some fun,” said Wiewer. “We all need to be open because variety brings people here.”
