Longview and area residents look forward to Little New York Daze year after year. With the celebration of Canada 150, events in the village will be nothing but extravagant.
As per usual, the Little New York Daze parade will kick-off on Saturday, July 15. The day prior, baseball fans can enjoy the annual slo-pitch tournament, which will run throughout the weekend.
According to Carole MacLeod, Longview councillor and Little New York Daze volunteer, the event is always a town favourite. With this year being Canada’s 150th birthday, MacLeod explained the theme of the parade will reflect the sesquicentennial. Canadian singer-songwriter Ian Tyson has also been confirmed as theparade marshall.
The Millarville Musical Ride will once again entertain guests behind Longview School, while activities for young and old will be held throughout the village’s Main Street. Residents can enjoy face painting, mutton busting and local art from the art galleries along the roadway.
A flea market will also be held with items from local and regional vendors, MacLeod said. Businesses are also encouraged to decorate their locations for the event.
To taper off Saturday, the Firefighters’ Dinner will be held at the community fire hall, which will begin at 5 p.m. Fireworks will occur at 11 p.m.
Sunday will bring even more festivities as Music in the Park will be held at the community’s Centennial Park. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., a barbecue, more vendors and a show n’ shine will fill the village with a celebratory atmosphere.
Little New York Days will occur July 14 to 16 in Longview, Alta.
