The annual Spirit of Okotoks Weekend Parade Day on June 20 is a highlight in Okotoks and this year’s theme is “Year of Sport” which has been declared as a theme for communities to celebrate across Canada this year.
“Okotoks is a sports minded community,” said Okotoks community events coordinator Mark Doherty. “We’ve got the Oilers, the Dawgs, Bisons, it made sense to piggy back on that theme.”
Organized by the Town of Okotoks, the parade features colourful floats, antique cars, bands, clowns, horseback riders and bicycles travelling down the town’s main street from the business park to the downtown core.
Start the day off right with a pancake breakfast in the Sears parking lot on McRae Street in downtown Okotoks, hosted by the Okotoks Lions Club in conjunction with the town, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Then get your lawn chair set up for the parade, which starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 20 and usually lasts one hour.
The Children’s Festival gets underway right after the parade at Ethel Tucker Centennial Park, featuring great family entertainment.
