Okotoks’ downtown streets will become a car buff’s dream in August for the annual Olde Towne Okotoks Show and Shine on Aug. 16.
The 2015 installment of the popular event will shine a spotlight on cars, trucks and automobiles of all kinds with the theme Olde Towne goes Uptown.
“We’re going for everything from antiques, to special interest, muscle cars, custom restorations to motorcycles,” said event organizer Keith Gray. “We’re trying to cover the whole gamut this year.”
With several blocks of vehicles on display, the organizers want to ensure they are seen. Volunteers will be offering rides in golf carts to who need transportation up and down Elizabeth.
The show and shine would not be complete without live music and vendors joining the cars lining the street, many of them geared towards car buffs.
As in previous years this celebration of cars will be preceded on Aug. 15 with a cruise and poker run. The cruise will start at the Okotoks Napa on 32 Street and winds through town before drivers head off to participate in the annual poker run event. The cars will all arrive at the George Traditional House for a mini-car show at around 8 p.m.
No pre-registration is required for people wanting their car included in this summer celebration of automobiles. Vehicles will be registered on the day of the event in the downtown core. The show and shine starts at 10 a.m. in Olde Towne Okotoks and continues through to 4 p.m. People are encouraged to bring a donation for the food bank. Help reach the goal to fill a five-tonne truck.
