Okotoks’ downtown streets will become a car buff’s dream in August for the annual Olde Towne Okotoks Show and Shine on Aug. 13.
The 2017 installment of the popular event won’t just shine a spotlight on all cars, trucks and automobiles expected to fill the Olde Towne Okotoks area. This year’s event is also showcasing everything the Okotoks community has to offer with the theme of Canada 150. The vehicles will be looking their finest after receiving TLC from the proud owners. With several blocks of vehicles on display, the organizers want to ensure they are seen.
“We’re going for everything from antiques, to special interest, muscle cars, custom restorations to motorcycles,” said event organizer Keith Gray.
The show and shine would not be complete without live music and vendors joining the cars lining the street.
As in previous years this celebration of cars will be preceded on Aug. 12 with a cruise and poker run. The cruise will start at the Okotoks Napa on 32 street and wind through town before drivers head off to participate in the annual poker run event. It is a fun event, which allows the participants cars to be driven in the Okotoks area — resulting in a lot of “oohs” and “aahs” from pedestrians.
The cars will all come back to the George Traditional House for a mini-car show at around 8 p.m. No pre-registration is required for people wanting their car included in this summer celebration of automobile, but car owners are advised to arrive early.
Vehicles will be registered on the day of the event in the downtown core. The show and shine starts at 10:00 a.m. in Olde Towne Okotoks and continues through to 4 p.m. People are encouraged to bring a donation for the food bank.
