Sheep River Race runs deep in foothills

One of the pillar annual recreational events in the Foothills will be taking place on a new weekend this year.

The 38th annual Sheep River Road Race hosted by the Big Rock Runners will take place on Sept. 16 this year.

Participants can enjoy a five or 10-kilometre jaunt around Okotoks starting at St. John Paul II Collegiate in Okotoks, at 53 Cimarron Drive.

In recent years the Sheep River Road Race has attracted in the neighborhood of 400 runners and walkers in a wide range of ages and fitness levels.

Following the run, an awards ceremony will be held and door prizes will be given away.

The kids’ race will get going at about 8:30 a.m. with the grown up treks beginning at about 9:15 a.m.

All participants receive a race package that includes a t-shirt.
