One of the pillar annual recreational events in the foothills will be taking place on a new weekend this year.

The 37th annual Sheep River Road Race hosted by the Big Rock Runners will take place on Sept. 10 this year as opposed to the usual Labour Day.

Participants can enjoy a five or 10-kilometre jaunt around Okotoks starting at St. John Paul II Collegiate in Okotoks.

In recent years the Sheep River Road Race has attracted in the neighborhood of 400 runners and walkers in a wide range of ages and fitness levels.

Following the run an awards ceremony will be held and door prizes will be given away. The kids’ race will get going at about 8:30 a.m. with the grown up treks beginning at about 9:15 a.m.

All participants receive a race package that includes a t-shirt. For more information or to register on-line go to www.bigrockrunners.com or at www.zone4.ca
