Things will be sizzling this summer in Olde Towne Okotoks.
The Town of Okotoks will host five Summer Saturday Arts and Culture Festivals from June 28 to Aug. 30 in Olde Towne Okotoks.
The five dates replace the first Saturday of the month festivities from previous years.
“It seemed like it was every long weekend in previous years, so everybody was out of town,” said Mark Doherty, Okotoks community events co-ordinator. “This year we have combined it with some of our bigger events, like Taste of Okotoks, BuskerFest and the Chili festival.
“There were still be all sorts of activities and children events at the art gallery and the market square.”
The events will help to highlight the work of local artists and musicians.
“We want to create a festive feel, the focus is to showcase the artistic talent in our community,” Doherty said.
Several area businesses may also offer special sales in conjunction with the festival.
“The festival is there to help build a sense of community pride,” Doherty said. “But at the same time if we can generate some economic activity, well, perfect.”
There will be a summer festival in conjunction with BuskerFest on June 28. The festivals will team up with the downright tasty Taste of Okotoks on July 26.
The final Summer Saturday festival will be Aug. 30. Things could get a bit spicy, as the festival will team up with the Chili Fest. (The Chili Fest will be down by the Okotoks Elks Hall, while Summer Festival will remain down at Olde Towne Okotoks at the art gallery).
There will be two standalone Summer Festivals on July 19 and Aug. 9.
