Popular parade a community highlight

Join Black Diamond as it celebrates Canada’s milestone year in the town’s 48th annual Diamond Valley Parade with the theme “The Big 150 – Celebrate Canada” on June 3.

More than 4,000 people are expected to line the streets for this much-anticipated event to watch a plethora of floats, cowboys and cowgirls on horseback, clowns, vintage vehicles and marching bands from communities across the Foothills such as Black Diamond, Turner Valley, Longview, High River, Okotoks and even Calgary. Expect an entry again this year by the Calgary Stampede.

The parade will begin marching its way through Black Diamond’s streets at 10 a.m. starting at the intersection of 3rd Street and 5th Avenue SW and will make its way down Centre Avenue.

Before the parade begins, spectators can enjoy a pancake breakfast in front of the Oilfields Regional Arena on 3rd Street SW or at Diamond Valley Dental on Centre Avenue.

Following the parade, the Foothills Lions Club hosts its annual duck derby and barbecue at noon in the Black Diamond municipal office parking lot on Centre Avenue.

The Westwood by Treeline Outdoors on Government Road will feature live music on the patio throughout the afternoon.
