One of Okotoks’ favorite festivals is turning up the heat a couple notches.
The annual Chili Fest will spice things up in the Olde Towne Okotoks area on Aug. 26.
Mark Doherty, Okotoks community events specialist, said there will be something for every taste bud. If you like it hot, there’ll probably be a few different chilis with just the right amount of spice.
“There’s a variety, from mild to extreme heat and,” he said.
The cook off is being held on Elk Avenue and Elizabeth Street in the downtown area from 11 a.m. until Sell Out.
All it costs is $5 for a sample bowl you can have all the chili you can eat.
“You can sample as much chili as you can possibly get into you,” said Doherty.
The proceeds from this event will go towards the Dr. Morris Gibson Student Council for their playground project.
Doherty expects between 20 to 25 different participants sharing samples of chili. Prepare to be entertained and expect to see them dressed to impress with different themes and costumes.
People will be able to vote on the best chili and the best display/theme for participants.
There will also be live entertainment throughout the day.
The Chili Fest is being held in conjunction with a market square at the Olde Towne Plaza down the street, so Doherty expects it to be a busy day downtown.
