Canada Day in Blackie not to be missed

STORY BY TAYLOR WEAVER

Blackie’s Canada Day celebrations always draw a high-spirited crowd as communities congregate in the small town just east of High River to celebrate our country’s birthday.

This is one of Blackie’s most attended events of the year and always offers fun for the whole family with an entire day of events.

The celebrations kick off with the fireman’s breakfast from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Blackie Fire Hall, which ends with just enough time to find a spot to watch the renowned Canada Day Parade, starting at 10 a.m.

After the parade, visitors can enjoy a petting zoo, hay rides, beef on a bun, a tractor pull, car show and bouncy castles spread throughout Lions Park.

The day’s events mark another year in Canada’s history and end with a firework display beginning at dusk.
