Break out your best ’50s costume and head to Black Diamond for Marv’s annual Rock ‘n’ Roll Classic on Sunday, July 30.
This blast-from-the-past event is organized each summer by Marvin Garriott, owner of Marv’s Classic Soda Shop on Centre Avenue, and draws hundreds of visitors, tourists and locals.
His idea was to create an event that was fun for the whole community while celebrating his favourite era – the 1950s.
Live classic ’50s rock and roll music will once again take the stage in the parking lot behind the soda shop with a performance by Calgary cover band Marty Antonini and the Bee Bops.
Throughout the afternoon, an Elvis impersonator will serenade the crowd both inside and outside the soda shop.
Garriott will serve up his unique invention, Marvello carbonated ice cream, and some locally-made Mexican paletas from his pink 1961 International Harvester Metro.
The rock ‘n’ roll event will also feature the ever-popular classic car show ‘n’ shine showcasing a great assortment of classic cars, trucks and motorcycles.
The fun runs from 12 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a charity pancake breakfast taking place before the event at 8 a.m. on First Street SW.
