Beating the summer heat in Turner Valley

Those wanting to beat the summer heat can head on over to Turner Valley.

Take a dip in the area’s only outdoor swimming pool, complete with a diving board and wheelchair-accessible lift. Dr. Lander Memorial Pool has been cooling off families since 1963 and continues to be a summer hotspot. Next to the swimming pool is the Turner Valley Spray Park – a recent and welcome addition to the local recreational scene. This 31,200 square-foot park boasts numerous water implements, benches, picnic tables, plenty of grass to relax on and change rooms with bathrooms. The season for both facilities runs from May to September, weather permitting. For a more relaxing way to cool off, grab your favourite floatation device and go for a float down the Sheep River to take in the beautiful scenery.

Those wanting to spend more than a day enjoying the town’s recreational opportunities, taking in the sites, visiting local shops and restaurants or venturing into the Kananaskis can overnight in the quaint Turner Valley Municipal Campground. The campground offers a picnic area, fire pits, public showers and bathrooms, firewood to purchase and 19 sites equipped with electricity.

Reservations can be made at turnervalley.ca or by calling 403-933-7483. Check-in takes place at the nearby Dr. Lander Memorial Pool.
