Arts scene takes centre stage for Culture Days

STORY BY KELCI NICODEMUS

Arts and Culture Days is a festival launched in 2010 and High River is planning to bring a jam-packed weekend of arts-related fun to the community.

The High River Library, the Town of High River and the Alberta Art Society come together annually to plan this weekend, running from Sept. 25 to 27. Businesses, local artists, galleries and art studios offer activities throughout town to help residents experience High River’s arts and culture.

Anything to do with arts or culture is welcome, said Joyce Brown, programs director with the High River Library and a member of the local organizing committee. Professionals and hobbyists alike are welcome to showcase their art during
the weekend.

“Everybody is welcome because Alberta Culture Days is a chance for those people to show off what they do whether it’s painting or writing or poetry or music or anything,” she said.

Local businesses are invited to feature artists throughout the weekend as well.

High River has hosted Arts and Culture Days since 2010 and received the 2010 CBC Cultureville award. The town was also selected as one of five Feature Celebration sites across the province in 2012.

Arts and Culture Days is held the same weekend as the River City Classics Show and Shine and High River’s hot air balloon festival, making the weekend of Sept. 25 to 27 a weekend of fun for residents and visitors alike.

This fall weekend is an exciting opportunity to visit High River.
