Longview Little New York Daze celebrates in July.

The village of Longview hosts a celebration every year with so much activity, it would leave a New Yorker dazed.

Be sure to circle July 18-20 on your calendar for the village’s Little New York Daze.

The village was known as Little New York back in the 1930s during the oil-boom days.

The village recognizes its 50th anniversary with the annual festival which will kick off at 7 a.m. on Saturday with a breakfast at the Longview firehall put on by the Dryland Sailors. The parade follows shortly thereafter at 10 a.m. Visitors are asked to be in Longview by no later than 9:30 a.m. as Highway 22, which forms much of the parade route, is closed after that point.

The family fun continues all day with kids events at the public school including mutton bustin and other games, said Judy Wiebe from the Longview Stampede Committee.

The mutton busting hinges on the committee being able to find some sheep to be ridden, Wiebe said.

The Longview Hall hosts a market of sorts at 12 p.m. with vendors featuring a variety of products on display. The Longview fire department puts on a dinner at the firehall.

The festivities then take a spiritual break complete with Stetsons.

The Sunday events include the cowboy church, put on by the Longview Bible Fellowship Church.

At noon, musicians will hit the stage at Centennial Park in downtown Longview. The event is truly for everyone with live music, food, beer gardens and vendors on site. The Sunday events run deep into the evening until approximately 8 p.m.

The Sunday in the Park will be a jam session which has the feel of an old time chataqua.

Throughout the weekend there will be Little Bronx Bombers strutting their stuff— a mixed slowpitch tournament will take place with an emphasis on fun. The tournament will start on Friday night.

There will also be Show ’N Shine in which vintage and hot vehicles will be on display at Centennial Park Sunday morning.

For visitors, the village of Longview features a bevy of camping opportunities. There are several campgrounds near Longview, including a full-facility campground within the village limits.
